Favourites Dominate In General Brock
Round two of the General Brock Trotting Series went postward at Woodbine Racetrack on Sunday afternoon, and all three divisions were captured by
post time favourites.
Kilted Pride notched a front-stepping score in the opening split for Team Baillargeon, which dominated the opening leg of the series. Mario Baillargeon hustled the four-year-old son of Angus Hall right to the lead and the gelding never looked back en route to winning in 1:59.2. Play Fair was next best and Perfect Hope rallied for third.
Ben Baillargeon conditions the eight-time winner for C Tremblay Holding Inc, Frank Cirillo and Soc Ge Denis Robidoux Inc. The connections have done very well with the career winner of $109,401 since acquiring the square gaiter for $25,000 from last November’s Harrisburg Mixed Sale.
Lexis Amigo found a seam in deep stretch and took advantage of the racing luck to post a victory for the tandem of driver Mike Saftic and owner/breeder/trainer Norm Dunstan. The son of Amigo Hall, who was sent off as the 4-5 choice in the eight-horse affair, managed to escape from a trick spot after being locked in around the final turn. He surged between trotters in the closing strides en route to stopping the teletimer in 1:59.1. Winters Jewel was second and Mcpride finished third.
With the win, the homebred gelding now boasts a 2-2-1 record in his first six starts of the season. The lion’s share of the purse bumped this year’s earnings over $41,000 while his lifetime total climbed to $121,522.
Homer Jay capitalized on a perfect trip from second over to win the final division in 1:56.4 for the tandem of trainer Ben Baillargeon and driver Mario Baillargeon. The four-year-old son of Muscles Yankee, who is 3-for-7 this season, fended off runner-up American Hot Rod and Good Luck Penny to remain perfect in the series.
Ben Baillargeon shares ownership on the gelding with C Tremblay Holding Inc and Frank Cirillo. The connections shelled out $27,000 to purchase the five-time winner from the 2009 Harrisburg Mixed Sale. The trotter has banked more than $153,000 to date.
The top ten money earners throughout the preliminary legs of the series will have the chance to line up on the starting gate in next Sunday afternoon’s $67,200 final of the General Brock Trotting Series.
