Oney Hall Just Misses Record
After riding high from his win with Desperate Man in Saturday’s Pepsi North America Cup at Woodbine Mohawk Park, driver Trevor Henry returned to work on Monday evening and nearly equalled a track trotting record with Oney Hall in the $34,000 Preferred Trot.
The Bob McIntosh trainee hustled to the lead from Post 6 and successfully carved out panels of :27, :55 and 1:23.2 before storming home in :27.3 to win by 1-1/2 lengths over race favourite Warrawee Roo in 1:51. Combs Hanover was third.
The performance was one-fifth of a second shy of the 1:50.4 track record for older male trotters. That’s a record held jointly by Mister Herbie (2012), Musical Rhythm (2019) and Guardian Angel AS (2019).
Oney Hall, a five-year-old son of Deweycheatumnhowe-On With The Show, is owned by Alan Leavitt of Lexington, KY. The victory improved the gelding’s 2021 record to 5-4-3 from 20 trips postward. The 18-time winner pushed his lifetime earnings over $250,000 with the victory.
