Fillies Vie For Prospect Points In Sarnia
On Saturday (Sept. 11), sophomore pacing fillies had their last opportunity to earn points in the fifth and final Prospect Series leg at Hiawatha Horse Park.
Two $7,100 divisions went postward on the Saturday card, and Windsun Gaga looms as a solid contender for the Prospect Series Final on Friday, Sept. 24 at Grand River Raceway.
Garrett Rooney pointed the daughter of Hes Watching - Artistic Melody to the lead and played that classic game of catch-me-if-you-can through fractions of :27.2, :57.2 and 1:25.2 before opening up some serious daylight on her five rivals. A :29.1 closer was more than enough to win handily, nearly six lengths the best in a time of 1:54.3. Better Kissthe men (Robert Shepherd) and Century Harlot (Scott Wray) completed the triactor.
Now a six-time winner in 11 starts this season, Windsun Gaga boasts $22,192 in purses for Ontario-based owners Tess Waxman, Christine Marion and Jordan Miller. Richard Moreau trains.
Lets Roar made some serious noise notching her first win of the year, a gate-to-wire 1:55.3 lifetime best performance for trainer Meg Crone and driver Anthony Haughan. The Hutt Racing Racing Stable-owned daughter of Shadow Play - Tiger Style was nearly four lengths better than favoured Lady Katie B (Rooney) with Brydown Better Bea (Wray) just back of the runner-up.
Now with a 1-1-1-1 summary in four Prospect starts, Lets Roar will look for a bit of luck in terms of a spot in that Prospect Final as the top nine point earners from the five regular season events earn a berth in the Sept. 24 finale.
