Storm Trotter Wins On Right Night
As severe thunderstorms rolled through most of southwestern Ontario on Tuesday (Sept. 7) hunch players most certainly had a few dollars placed on an appropriately-named trotter at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Storm Trotter braved the rains falling in the evening’s eighth race to post a 1:58.3 victory in a $15,000 conditioned trot. Driver Sylvain Filion settled the three-year-old Muscle Mass gelding into fourth while Exclusive Rosette led the field to a :28.4 first quarter and a 1:00 half. Filion made his move into the final turn and drew to equal terms with Exclusive Rosette passing three-quarters in 1:30. Through the stretch, Storm Trotter ground to the lead through the slop and held firm to the finish, holding off a late-charging Arlanda by three-quarter lengths. Exclusive Rosette faded to third.
A homebred for Thomas and Elizabeth Rankin, Storm Trotter broke his maiden in his third start, banking $9,790 through his brief career. Shane Weber trains the winner who paid $11.50.
