Gaitway Gal Grabs DSBF Prep
Freshman pacing filly Gaitway Gal prepped for upcoming Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) stakes at Harrington Raceway with a 1:57.3 victory on Tuesday (Sept. 7).
The two-year-old Jeff Smith trainee finished with a flourish to outkick Bank The Win and Bluffs Crush to the wire in a tight three-way photo. The Delmarvalous-Brussels Hanover filly improved to two-for-three lifetime, with DSBF two-year-old stakes commencing at Harrington on Sept. 21. Gaitway Gal broke her maiden in her second start on July 14 at Harrah’s Philadelphia. Pat Berry drove the $3.80 winner.
One race later, another horse that may figure prominently in upcoming DSBF stakes action prevailed as Kdk Standardbreds’ Heinikin Bythebay prevailed in 1:56 over Hiro Knockout and Imwoncaptainwiser. Jason Thompson steered the $2.40 winner. The first leg of DSBF action for pacing males is Sept. 20.
Driver Mike Cole and trainer Joe Columbo teamed with three wins as Western Secret ($9), Stormy Place ($2.80) and Michelles Jazz ($9) won. Cole joined George and Tina Dennis with an owner double. Owner Vincent Bradley and trainer Bart Bradley also had a double.
