Euchred Tops Inverness Pacers
Euchred went down the road to close out Sunday's afternoon program at Inverness Raceway with an easy victory in the featured Winners Over Pace.
Intended Royalty (Zachary Mullins) fired off the gate from post four in the $1,600 top class, but Euchred shot through from the inside heading into the first turn for trainer/driver Walter Walker. He established the lead in front of Intended Royalty with the rest of the field gapping at least five lengths through a :28.1 opening quarter.
As Euchred carved out fractions of :57 and 1:26.1, the favoured sophomore star Rotten Ronnie (Redmond Doucet) moved underway from the backfield and he progressed into second as the field turned for home. However, Euchred had the jump on that foe and cruised home a 3-3/4-length winner in 1:55.3. Daddy Let Me Drive (Rodney Gillis) closed from the back of the six-pack to show.
A 67-time career winner, Euchred returned $15.30 as a 6-1 shot.
The nine-year-old Shadow Play gelding has now won back-to-back races at Inverness and is four-for-12 this year for local owner Kayla Habicht Walker.
One race prior, 13-year-old pacing gelding Cliff Drummond executed his 60th career victory in wire-to-wire fashion.
Leaving from the inside post, Cliff Drummond and driver Redmond Doucet had the field following in program order through opening panels of :30.1 and 1:00.4. The career winner of nearly $300,000 began to widen his leading margin on the way past three-quarters in 1:30 en route to a 6-1/4-length victory in 1:58.2. Makes Me Stupid (Rodney Gillis), who advanced first-up at the midway mark, got up for second at the end of the mile over Docs Ronhenry (Leander Beaton).
Cliff Drummond paid $3.60 to win as the odds-on favourite.
Joining the James Copley stable this year, the Leader Bayama gelding has earned eight wins since for local owner Evan Gillis.
