Moonwriter, Woodmere Ideal Art Face Off
Woodmere Ideal Art and Moonwriter are two of the finest pacers on the Eastern Seaboard and they will go toe-to-toe Sunday afternoon (August 29) in the top event at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
The 14-dash Sunday card has a 1:00 p.m. opening post time with Woodmere Ideal Art the morning line favourite in the $2,900 event. The 23-time winning son of Articulator has the outside in Race 13's five-horse field. Fresh off a third-place finish in preferred action in Charlottetown, trainer Sifroi Melanson has enlisted the services of Jason Hughes in the race bike for owner Ultimate Stable of Greater Lakeburn, N.B.
Moonwriter leaves from Post 4 with Marc Campbell picking up the drive on the Colin Johnson trainee. A winner of 28 races, Moonwriter now finds himself $600 short of the $400,000 mark in career purse earnings. Also in the field are Disneyman (Adam Merner), Best To Hurst (Ken Murphy) and Flash In The Pang (Walter Cheverie).
The Backstretch Beat thinks Moonwriter will be forwardly placed and will go all the way to the winner’s circle while passing his career milestone. “When Moonwriter makes the lead he is the next best thing to invincible and we think that is where Marc is heading with this veteran. He is only a few hundred dollars short of the $400,000 mark and that barrier could very easily be pierced [Sunday].”
Heart And Soul is the top choice in the $2,400 back-up pace in the fifth race of the day with Cheverie in the bike for trainer George Riley and owner Riley Farms Ltd., of Summerside. A winner of 32 career races, Heart And Soul has been winless so far in 2021 but was a runner-up his last three starts. His main challengers are Legendary Ron (Hughes) and Rymar Jimbo (Ken Murphy).
