Record Mile For Cheeky Little Minx

Track records are made to be broken but the aged trot record never even stood for a full race card before Cheeky Little Minx reclaimed it Thursday evening at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

Cheeky Little Minx was pointed to the lead in the $2,500 top trot by trainer-driver Gilles Barrieau and led through splits of :28.2, :57.3 and 1:26.4 before closing out the mile in 1:55.4 to shave two-fifths of a second off Daisy River’s 1:56.1 track record that was set last Saturday night. The mile was a track trotting mare record, an overall trot record and a new Atlantic trot record. The winning daughter of Lucky Chucky is owned by Wayne MacRae and Howmac Farms Ltd.

Up Helly AA continued his win streak in a $12,150 Brian Andrew Memorial two-year-old colt trot division with a 2:03.2 victory in line Ken MacDonald. Clare MacDonald trains the son of Armbro Barrister for Riley Farms Ltd.

Amigo Hall filly Defriended prevailed in the $12,150 Brian Andrew filly division with a 27-length romp in 2:04.2 for driver Myles Heffernan, Sr., trainer Myles Heffernan, Jr. and owner Jackie Heffernan.

Mile Hill Willie (Barrieau) rallied to capture the D&G Younker memorial in 1:59.3 for trainer Paul Morrison and his co-owner John Breau, Shediac Cape, NB while Anne With An E won the Happy 80th Birthday Bert McWade pace for owner/trainer/driver Brett LeBlanc in 1:59.1.
