Tioga To Host NY Sophomore Trotters
Tioga Downs will host two divisions of the New York Sire Stakes (NYSS) for three-year-old colts & geldings on Saturday (August 21).
Ahundreddollarbill (Andrew McCarthy) is clearly the one to beat in the $56,000 first division. Tony Alagna trains the Chapter Seven gelding, who has had a phenomenal sophomore season with seven wins in eight starts so far. He won the $205,000 Empire Breeders Classic (EBC) earlier this season plus four legs of the NYSS. The gelding has banked nearly $370,000 this year for owners Crawford Farms Racing and James Crawford.
His toughest competition could be the Ake Svanstedt-trained Ambassador Hanover (Scott Zeron). The colt by Chapter Seven has three wins so far this season. He was second to Ahundreddollarbill in the EBC and was second in the $500,000 Yonkers Trot. Ambassador Hanover is closing in on $400,000 in purses so far this year.
Trained by David Dewhurst and co-owned with Philip Hale, Dewey Arnold (Jason Bartlett) is the 2-1 morning line favourite in the $55,000 second division. The gelding by Deweycheatumnhowe has nine wins in 16 starts this season and a total of 11 victories lifetime. He has won more over $170,000 in his career.
Seven Nation Army (Mark MacDonald) is the 5-2 second choice. Ray Schnittker trains the Chapter Seven colt. He has two wins in 2021 and has been to the winner’s circle three times in his career.
The 12-race card starts at 6:15 p.m.
