Monctonian Celebrates 50th Running

The Monctonian harness race will celebrate its 50th edition on Thursday (August 19) at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park during Old Home Week.

The race will feature a purse of $3,900 with McPat the 5-2 morning line favourite. Dieppe native Gilles Barrieau will drive the pacer from post two.

The Monctonian was first raced in 1947 and won by Time Table for Hall of Famer Jules Giguere with a time of 2:07.1. Broussard won the fastest Monctonian in 1991 with a time of 1:52.4 with Michel Ouellet driving.

The race is co-sponsored by City of Moncton mayor Dawn Arnold and Moncton Standardbred Racing Association.
