Pretty Boy Duke Streaks To Prospect Win
Pretty Boy Duke extended his win streak to five with a speedy score at Leamington Raceway on Sunday afternoon (August 15) during the fourth round of the Prospect Series for three-year-old pacing colts and geldings.
Pretty Boy Duke ($5) and driver Scott Wray won the first $7,000 division in 1:58, lowering the track record for three-year-old pacing colts by two-fifths of a second. The 1:55.3 overall male record for three-year-olds is held by gelding Derby Dale.
After racing gapped out in third early on through :27.4 and :56.4 opening panels, Pretty Boy Duke advanced to confront the popular pacesetter, Big Teddy (Garrett Rooney), past the 1:27 three-quarters mark. He took over turning for home and held clear of the oncoming Editorial (Lorne House) by 1-1/4 lengths. Shadow Warrior (Tyler Borth) finished third.
Lacey McCabe trains the Sunshine Beach-Pretty Thing colt for owner/breeder Glenview Livestock Ltd. of Wallenstein, Ont. Pretty Boy Duke's win streak also includes a third leg division of the Prospect last time out on August 2 at Dresden Raceway. He is now six-for-eight this year and has won eight races from 13 lifetime starts.
In the second $6,900 series division, even-money favourite Dirty Lil Piglet ($4.10) led a field of four wire-to-wire in 1:59.1, completing a driving grand slam on the Sunday card for Garrett Rooney.
A runner-up in the July 17 second leg of the series at Hiawatha Horse Park, the Sunshine Beach-Tjs Ellie colt carved out fractions of :28.4, :59.1 and 1:29.4 en route to the 1-1/2-length victory. Sauble Attack (Tyler Borth) held on for second over late-closer Sunseeker (Lorne House), with Dragon Teen (Don Rankin Jr.) right there in fourth.
The win was Dirty Lil Piglet's third from six starts this season and eight races lifetime for trainer Robert Daer and owner/breeder Rebecca Williamson of Blyth, Ont.
The fifth leg of the Prospect Series for sophomore pacing colts and geldings will be held at Hanover Raceway on Saturday, Sept. 11.
Another win streak continued on Sunday as 10-year-old gelding Shootinforthestars ($4.30) prevailed from the pocket in a $7,000 claiming pace in 1:59.4 to earn his sixth straight victory. Tyler Borth picked up the catch-drive for trainer Tyler Nostadt and owner Blueshoe Investments.
