Dan Dar Mal Tops Inverness Boys
Dan Dar Mal closed out the Sunday afternoon (August 15) harness racing program at Inverness Raceway by beating the boys in the top pacing class.
In the featured $1,250 Winners Over, Dan Dar Mal fired off the gate from outside of her four foes and raced three-deep into the first turn in pursuit of inside leader Windmeredontmatter.
The five-year-old mare took over command approaching the quarter mark in 28 seconds and proceeded to the half in :57.4 with Windmeredontmatter following in second and a gap of three back to the rest of the field.
Windmeredontmatter later tipped out past three-quarters in 1:27.1, but couldn't catch the front-striding Dan Dar Mal, who prevailed by a half-length in a new mark of 1:56.4. She paid $4.20 to win as the favourite. Eastwardho Fun rallied wide from the backfield off the final turn to complete the top three finish order.
Owned and bred by Kevin Gillis of Windsor, Ont., Dan Dar Mal is now an eight-time career winner with more than $45,000 in purse earnings.
The Betterthancheddar-Little Wubbs mare sports a seasonal record reading 4-2-1 from 10 starts for trainer Alex MacNeil.
There will be no live harness racing on Wednesday at Inverness due to Old Home Week racing. The next card will be Sunday, Aug. 22, with post time set for 1 p.m.
