Williams, Braybrook Dominate Miami Card
A pair of trainers stole the show on Saturday (Aug. 14) at Miami Fair, with Trevor Williams and Clayton Braybrook registering a total of seven wins between them on the 10-race card.
Trevor Williams continued his successful 2021 summer by adding four more wins to his total now at 33 wins. He also added $3,315 to his earnings now bringing his yearly total over $50,000 and leads all trainers at Miami Fair.
Clayton Braybrook had three wins of his own and turned his summer around because he only had one win as a trainer going into the day. He edged out Williams by earning more on the day at $3,518. He now has $12,811 earned this year and has a UDRS of .344 which would be the best of his career if he can maintain it. His best performance of the day was in the second race with Kernel Kelly. The four-year-old gelding paced lifetime mark of 2:00.1 with Braybrook on the bike as well.
The Horse & Gelding Open Pace took place in the eighth race on the card. Read The Proposal ($3.60) with Glenn LeDrew in the bike made it to the winner's circle following a win in 2:00.1. Read The Proposal comes from the Trevor Williams barn and gave him one of his four wins on the day. Appoggiatura finished second and was driven and trained by a top trainer on the day, Clayton Braybrook. The post-time longshot Senga Savannah finished third with Tyler Grundy on the bike.
The final race of the day was the Fillies & Mares Open Pace. Hurry Home ($4.80) picked up her fifth win in six starts at Miami this summer and did so in the time of 1:59.4. A Cowboy Dream continued her success this summer by finishing second for the third time this summer. In her eight starts in 2021, she has only finished outside the top-three once but has never won yet this season. Williams’ barn picked up third in this race with Bold N Sporty. Williams’s other entry in the Fillies & Mares Open Pace, Farmerstrikesfame was the post-time favourite but had a rough trip finishing last.
Williams' other three wins on the card came with Lilpieceofmyheart ($8.50), Buck Rogers ($4.40) and Lisplaced ($3.30). Braybrook's hat trick came also naturally early on the card, winning three of the first four races by sweeping the Early Daily Double with Tagoras ($7.80) and Kernel Kelly ($5.60) before taking the fourth with Nellies Onthemoney ($4.60).
Miami Fair only has two more race days on their schedule. Miami Fair will host Manitoba’s biggest harness stake race of the race, The Futurity Finals, on Saturday, Aug. 21, 2021. Eight Manitoba-bred three-year-olds earned their spot in the eliminations that took place on July 24th. Post-time will be at 3:00 p.m. (CDT).
