Warrawee Vital Victorious; Rockin In Heaven Becomes Millionaire
Circling to the top past the quarter, Warrawee Vital held firm on the lead to take the $34,000 Preferred Pace on Saturday (Aug. 15) at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
The four-year-old Captaintreacherous stallion settled into fourth while Century Farroh took the field by the quarter in :27.1 with Wheels On Fire sitting second. But once driver Trevor Henry angled Warrawee Vital off the pylons, Wheels On Fire vacated pocket to take the lead before Henry cleared control to a :54.4 half. He faced little challenge on the point rounding the final turn, passing three-quarters in 1:22.2, and turned away all challengers in the stretch to best a cone-skimming Century Farroh by 1-1/2 lengths in 1:49.3. Matticulous GB closed for third while Wheels On Fire faded to fourth.
Owned by Blair Corbeil, Yolanda Fellows and M&S Racing Stable Inc., Warrawee Vital won his third race from 11 starts this season and his 11th from 27 overall, earning $348,506. He paid $3.80 to win.
On the undercard of the 12-race program, pacing veteran Rockin In Heaven passed the $1-million earnings plateau. The nine-year-old son of Rock N Roll Heaven finished fourth in a $20,000 overnight event in rein to Bob McClure for trainer Teesha Symes, pushing the stallion’s bankroll to $1,000,498. Douglas Polley and Gordon McComb own the 38-time winner.
Hes Swift ($51.80) won the race where the pacing veteran reached the milestone, winning the first of what became a hat trick for trainer Carmen Auciello. Auciello scored another upset victory with Itty Bitty ($40.00) and capped the three-win night with Forefather ($7.40)
