Jean-Claude St. Jacques Passes
Longtime harness racing industry participant Jean-Claude St. Jacques of Saint Hyacinthe, Quebec passed away on Monday, August 9 at the age of 94.
Jean-Claude was a successful horseman in his home province, and developed a number of trotters locally that went on to international prominence. The most notable of those horses was Jobie Tempest, who St-Jacques campaigned to an undefeated rookie season in Quebec before tackling tougher company in Ontario and stateside. The son of Garland Lobell took his mark of 1:57.2 at The Red Mile with St-Jacques driving, and the tandem also boasted a Grand Circuit win in the Galt at Maywood Park.
St. Jacques also developed trotting star Duo Val Car — dam of $665,000 winner Valvec — and stakes winner Miss Garland, who produced 2005 Hambletonian winner Vivid Photo and millionaire Devious Man.
Besides his wife Jeannine Beauregard, Mr. St. Jacques is survived by his children: Sylvie (Pierre Chevrette), Lyne (Noël Demers), Yves (Micheline Paquette), Claude (Richard Gingras), Andréanne (Justin Godbout), his grandchildren: Benoit, Patricia Valérie, Catherine, Olivier, Emile, his great-grandchildren: Aurélie, Charlie, Logan, Louis, Philippe, his brothers and sisters: Françoise, Henriette, Lucienne, Louise (late Claude Forget), Jeannine (Jacques Hébert ), Jacqueline (Léo Laroche), as well as brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Under the protocols of province's Ministry of Health, the family of Mr. Jean-Claude St. Jacques will receive condolences on Friday, August 27, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at l’Église de La Présentation. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m., followed by interment in the parish cemetery.
