I Wish You Well Strikes Again
I Wish You Well ($8.10) made it two in a row with a 1:54 score in Wednesday's (Aug. 4) featured $8,500 Preferred 3 for distaff pacers at Grand River Raceway.
After vaulting to a 3-1/2-length win over conditioned company at Georgian Downs on July 17, the seven-year-old daughter of Well Said was able to capitalise on a more favourable trip on the rise to Preferred company — and she made the absolute best of it. Travis Henry kept the pocket closed with I Wish You Well, yielding only to 4-5 favourite Catch An Ace (Travis Cullen), who controlled a :56.3 first lap before facing first-over pressure from Saulsbrook Raven (Brett MacDonald) up the backstretch and into the final turn. Catch An Ace parried her outside rival, but she could not withstand the open-stretch rally of I Wish You Well, who pushed through at the pegs to just nose Catch An Ace out in the final strides. Charmbo Brie (Paul MacKenzie) was a ground-saving third, 3-1/4 lengths in arrears.
Anita Ouellette trains 20-time winner I Wish You Well for Luc Ouellette Inc.
