OLG Gaming Areas Going Greener
As part of the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation’s Bet On Green environmental initiative, the agency is announcing another enhancement to its partnership with Bullfrog Power, Canada's green electricity provider
.
Effective last month, five additional OLG gaming sites have switched to 100 per cent green energy through Bullfrog Power, bringing the total to seven fully green-powered OLG facilities.
"OLG is becoming an industry leader in green practices. From reducing the amount of paper we use for our lottery products to greening our casinos, OLG is achieving green objectives in a variety of areas. Through OLG’s partnership with Bullfrog Power, our support of 100 per cent green electricity strengthens our commitment to improving the environment and our footprint,” said Rob Moore, a senior vice president at OLG.
Casino Sault Ste. Marie and the OLG Slots at Georgian Downs, Mohawk Racetrack, Hanover Raceway and Clinton Raceway are the latest OLG casinos moving to green electricity. The IT Data Systems centre and Casino Brantford switched to 100 per cent emissions-free electricity in January 2009.
OLG is now amongst the largest supporters of renewable energy from Bullfrog Power in Canada. The seven OLG facilities on green power will put over 26,000 MWh annually back onto the grid, enough energy to power over 2,300 homes. OLG has committed to obtaining 90 per cent of its electricity from renewable sources by 2014.
“OLG’s expanded partnership with Bullfrog is a strong show of support for the advancement of new renewable energy in Ontario,” said Tom Heintzman, president of Bullfrog Power.
“OLG’s ongoing and increasing commitment to green power with Bullfrog helps to raise awareness about the choice Ontario homes and businesses have to support locally-produced clean, renewable electricity. We are proud to be working with OLG toward a cleaner, healthier environment for the communities it serves.”
