Chase The Ace Prevails In Mares Open
After being collared at the wire by the favoured Mrs Suhwiggins last Tuesday, Chase The Ace avenged her defeat in this week's $8,100 Fillies & Mares Open Pace at Century Downs Racetrack and Casino.
Sitting behind Mrs Suhwiggins (Mike Hennessy) in fifth after a :29.1 opening quarter, Chase The Ace got the jump on that rival and moved first-up approaching the :57.3 midway mark for trainer/driver Brandon Campbell. The five-year-old Armbro Baylor-Untold Millions mare advanced towards leader Tajmeallover (J.F. Gagne) as they passed three-quarters in 1:25.4 and took over down the stretch en route to a 1:54.2 victory, with Mrs Suhwiggins closing off cover but finishing 1-3/4 lengths behind this time out. Tajmeallover held on for third over Rockin Mystery (David Kelly).
Chase The Ace paid $10.40 to win as the 4-1 second choice.
Owned by Jodi Loftus, she improved her seasonal record to 4-3-2 from 12 starts. The 17-time career winner is now just a few hundred dollars shy of the $100,000 earnings mark.
