Moonwriter Wires Summerside's Best
Moonwriter was aggressive from the start and cruised to victory in the Sunday afternoon (Aug. 1) $3,100 featured Preferred Pace at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
David Dowling sent the Colin Johnson trainee to the lead in and cut out panels of :28.2, :57.2 and 1:26.3 on his way to a 1:55.1 score. Debbie Element owns Moonwriter, a nine-year-old son of Sportswriter who has now won three of his last four starts. Flash In The Pang (Driven by Brodie MacPhee) finished second with Pictonian Storm (Corey MacPherson) third.
Dowling had three winners on the day as he also won the back-up class with Shadow Of A Daut in 1:57.3 for trainer Earl Watts. Dowling’s other victory came in upset fashion at 32-1 in race two with Magical Lily Bear in 1:59.4 for trainer Ron Gass.
Adam Merner had the hot hands on the day with four trips to the winner’s circle. WC Marys Buddy (2:00.4) won race one for Merner and trainer Don Sweet, followed by Positive Art (1:59.4) in race four from the Bing Easter stable. La Vie En Rose (1:58.2) was a winner in race five for trainer Glen MacKay Jr., and Uncle Bill (1:58.2) completed the Merner quadruple in race eight for trainer Marc Campbell.
Jaycob Sweet recorded a driving double on the program.
Live racing continues Thursday (Aug. 5) and Saturday (Aug. 7) evenings at Red Shores Charlottetown with 6 p.m. opening post times, and Sunday afternoon (Aug. 8) at Red Shores Summerside at 1 p.m.
