Series Continue At Miami Fair
Miami Fair had a full 11 races on Saturday (July 31), which included the second round of several stake races and a couple of open paces.
The first stake race of the day was the second leg of the Silk Lace, which is open to three-year-old Manitoba-sired fillies. Only a field of three entered the race and fought for their piece of the $4,572 purse. Millies Million ($2.60) won in a time of 2:02.1 with driver Michel Rey in the bike. Send Me A Tweet with teammate Don Howlett finished second while Kevin Hildebrandt and Baby Badger finished third.
The second leg of the Golden Boy also took place, an event open to three-year-old Manitoba-sired colts and geldings. The field of six battled for their share of a $5,846 purse. Drivelikeustoleit ($6.50) came up with the win with Dean Rey in a time of 2:02.1. The post-time favourite, Dawns Night Owl, finished second with Glenn Le Drew in the bike. Promise Me A Win rounded the top three.
The finals for both the Silk Lace and Golden Boy will go on Aug. 28 at Miami Fair.
The last stake race of the day was the Kindergarten Stakes, which is open to two-year-olds of either sex. Eight were entered, but Jay Dees Scooter was scratched earlier in the day. The other seven fought for the purse of $4,950. AK Up N Attem stole ($11.50) the show and won in 2:04.1. The young gelding is trained by Jacqueline Grundy and was driven by Tyler Grundy. The post-time favourite, Bitsnbites, finished second with Darryl Mason in the bike. Sassy Libby and Marc Fillion rounded out the top three.
The Horse and Geldings Open had four pacers go to post for $2,000 in purse. Trevor Williams trainee Read The Proposal ($6.90) won in 2:01.4. Baylor Out with Marc Fillion snuck in for second. Appoggiatura finished third but there was no show betting on the field of four.
The Fillies and Mares Open had three horses all on multi-race win streaks coming into the race. Pure Addition ($4.40) picked up her fourth-straight win and gave trainer Trevor Williams one of his fourth wins on the day. Hurry Home made the move up in class to the open this weekend and did not disappoint with her second-place finish but did end her win streak. Tyler Grundy and A Cowboys Dream finished third. Trevor William’s second entry in the race, Bold N Sporty finished fourth and her four-race win streak ended.
Williams' other wins on the day came with Filly ($2.90) and Lilpieceofmyheart ($4.90).
Miami Fair ended the day with a handle of $12,357, which was the highest so far this summer.
Next Saturday (Aug. 7), Miami Fair will host the Manitoba Great Western Stake, which traditionally is a two-heat stake race. There is also a $171.83 Pick-4 carryover. First-race post time is 3:00 p.m. (CDT).
