Lit De Rose From Last To First
Karma Seelster was on a serious front-end mission in Friday’s $30,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Handicap, but it’s a mission that failed thanks to the late-closing weapons possessed by Lit De Rose.
In rein to Louis-Philippe Roy, Lit De Rose got away last in the compact field before turning on the jets late and posting a career-best score in 1:49.4.
Karma Seelster powered to the top from Post 4 and sliced out panels of :26.3, :55.1 and 1:22.1. So Much More came first-over in the backstretch, and Roy gladly took that mare’s cover with Lit De Rose. Karma Seelster weakened as the field hit the head of the lane, and the backfield – including Lit De Rose – came to life. She uncorked a final quarter clocked in :26.4 to win by over So Much More, with third prize going to newcomer Major Occasion A.
It was the second win of the season for the six-year-old daughter of Leader Bayama-Intense. Bred and owned by Guy Corbeil of Mirabel, QC, the 23-time winner pushed her lifetime earnings to $349,062 for trainer Richard Moreau.
