Donald Johnston Passes
Longtime harness racing participant Donald Johnston of Collingwood, Ont. passed away peacefully on Sunday February 14, 2010 at the Collingwood General & Marine Hospital in his 69th year

Known by his friends as "Collingwood's oldest teenager", Johnston was the trainer of many, including former Open class pacing mare Maddys Image. Beloved husband of the late Frances Johnston (nee Brown). Dear son of Wilfred and his wife Jane Johnston and his late mother Dorothy Johnston (nee Carruthers). Loving father of Leanne Stephens, Julie and her husband Michael Rigney and Chris Johnston and his wife Jacquie Pankatz. Survived by his brothers Peter (Nellie) and Rod Johnston. Will be forever cherished in the hearts of his grandchildren; Ashley Johnston, Meghan Matthew and Kaitlyn Rigney and Jack and Josh Johnston as well as his great grandchildren Aidan and Brooklyn Johnston.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday February 16, 2010 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the evening at Fawcett Funeral Homes, Collingwood Chapel, 82 Pine Street. A Celebration of Don's life will take place in the chapel on Wednesday February 17, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made payable to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart & Stroke Foundation in Mr. Johnston's memory.
