Schare Adams Passes
Schare Adams, 67, of Georgetown, Ky., passed away on July 20 due to health issues.
A dedicated native Lexington Standardbred horse breeder, she operated and owned Saga Farm in Georgetown. Saga Farm completed all aspects of the horse industry including breeding, boarding, foaling, horse and yearling sale preparations and racing.
She worked as a farm hand, racetrack groom, veterinary assistant and in farm manager positions, including Kentuckiana Farms and Standardbred Pacers and Trotters prior to purchasing Saga Farm.
Ms. Adams received her “foundation miles” in Standardbred farm management from the late Ted Woodley at Willow Spring Farm. At that time she was attending the University of Kentucky, pursuing her degree in Animal Science.
Upon graduating from the University of Kentucky, she began working in anesthesiology at Hagyard, Davidson and McGee Veterinary practice in Lexington. After that she gained experience under Tom Crouch at Kentuckiana Farms. It was after this employment that she managed Standardbred Pacers and Trotters.
Ms. Adams initially planned for Saga Farm upon purchase to primarily be a boarding facility for broodmares year round. Then as a result she also was specializing in raising yearlings for people who wanted their horses raised in Kentucky.
She always thought that Kentucky was the best place to raise horses because of the lush grass and inclement weather.
She always stated, “My farm is very well laid out and organized. It’s very labor saving, and it’s extremely clean and safe. But it’s not fancy. I concentrate on raising horses, not frills.”
Ms. Adams was a blessing to everyone lucky enough to know her. She was an animal lover and loved her life on the farm. Her love and kindness for animals was definitely present everywhere, whether it was horses, cats, dogs, mules, donkeys, miniature horses, etc. She had a very kind heart and one that helped others establish their horse careers.
She loved to needlepoint, cross stitch and quilt. Christmas was very special to her as she loved to display all of her dog stockings that she made for each dog. And over the yeas there were an abundant number of them.
Triple Crown winner and stallion Blissfull Hall retired from Australia and returned to the United States to live his life out at Saga Farm, which meant a lot to her. Daniel Plouffe had contacted her about the idea. She always wanted the best home for animals, especially to live their remaining years in quiet solitude. She said at first Blissfull Hall didn’t understand or grasp the idea of retirement but soon became used to it.
Some of her favourite owned broodmares included Areba Bunny (by B.G’s Bunny), Areba Rabbit, Nobel Marty, Hurrikane Schmumma, My Hare Lady, Rose De Vie Stena, Spoiled Beach, and Valley Of Dreams.
She will always be missed and remembered by many of her friends and clients.
She is survived by her sister, Stacy (Harvey) Taylor; aunt, Mary (Tim) Brose; and Clay Barnes. She was preceded in death by her mother, Willie Adams; and aunt, Wanda Barnes.
In lieu of flowers and memorials, it would be a gift to adopt or rescue a dog and give it a loving home.
