New Winners In Prospect Series
The second leg of the Prospect Series for three-year-old pacing colts & geldings featured three divisions on Saturday (July 17) at Hiawatha Horse Park, and each of the winners notched their first series victory.
Play Rock was the fastest of the three winners, notching his first win on Canadian soil after starting his season with a pair of wins at Northfield Park. Driver Brett MacDonald sent the sophomore four-wide at the three quarter mark to challenge pacesetter Country Boy Tough (Scott Coulter) and finally forge past in the final strides for the 1:55.4 decision. Country Boy Tough was a resolute second with Toughsonofabeach (Garrett Rooney) best of the rest in third.
Trainer Jason Libby co-owns Play Rock (Shadow Play - Classic Rock) along with Fred Woolford of London and Doug Dunbar of Woodstock, Ont. In eight lifetime starts, the sophomore sports a 3-0-1 summary with $13,290 in earnings.
Sights On You, a son of Hes Watching - Bolero Tam Tam won the second division after a pocket ride in a lifetime best 1:57 for driver Marc St. Louis, Jr., trainer Terry Gallant and owners Dooley Boys Racing Stable of Halifax, N.S. and Nikway Farms of St Davids, Nfld.
Dragon Teen inherited the pocket for the back half of his division and trainer-driver-owner Donnie Rankin Jr. found a lane for him late to spring the 20-1 upset, earning a new mark of 1:56.1 in the process. Since the mid-June purchase, the son of Hes Watching - Dragontina has two wins in three starts for his current connections.
