Terry Keyko Named New HRA COO
On Friday, Horse Racing Alberta announced Terry Keyko as their new Chief Operating Officer and in a meeting with horsemen he was quick to point out the pressing problem in the province.
In an article in today's Edmonton Sun, Keyko acknowledged the dilemma of having just one A track but could not foresee a quick solution.
"I will be asking you for answers and input," he told horsemen. "I believe, by summer, we can address some issues and pick the ones we may be able to solve quickly."
Keyko is a welcome addition to HRA according to the local standardbred group.
"I'm happier to have someone with a clear slate (lack of vested interest or partial knowledge) than I would be someone who has a little knowledge and thinks he or she has a solid idea of the way things are," Fred Gillis, executive director of the Alberta Standardbred Horse Association, told The Sun. "He enters with curiosity, and that's a good thing."
With more than 30 years in roles with Alberta goverment, this is Keyko's first executive position in harness racing.
