‘General’ Superb In Sires Stakes
Fern Hill General proved he is a force to be reckoned with while delivering a crushing 1:56.4 performance in his first lifetime start in the Atlantic Sires Stakes for two-year-old pacing colts Thursday evening at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
Brodie MacPhee was at the lines of the son of Malicious–Noble Ellen in a $16,420 Atlantic Sires Stakes A-division for rookie colts as the Earl Smith trainee gave a front-end score by three lengths over Fern Hill Gusto (Driven by Marc Campbell) and Woodmere Bankroll (Mike McGuigan). Peter Smith of Stratford and Gerald Morrissey of Vernon Bridge share ownership on Fern Hill General.
The other $16,420 A-division saw St Charlesfireball win in 1:58.2 for trainer-driver Campbell and owners Ryan and Everett MacLeod of Souris. Second went to Check Your Source (McGuigan) with Brumby (David Dowling) rounding out the Triactor.
The $3,000 B-divisions of the Sires Stakes were won by Middleton Terror (Don MacNeill) in 2:00 and Silver Spirit (Devon Wallace) in 1:59.4.
Driver Gilles Barrieau scored a driving triple on the night winning with Top Of Her Trade (1:57.4) from the Todd Walsh stable and Thebossisagirl (1:57.3) and Outrageous Song (1:58.1) both for trainer Ron Matheson.
