Mohawk Qualifiers Complete
Two-year-olds hit the track on Tuesday (July 7) in a nine-qualifier session at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Sports Box popped pocket past the quarter to go the fastest mile for 2-year-old pacing colts. The Paul Reid-trained son of Sportswriter grabbed control after a :29.4 opener and cruised through middle splits of :58.4 and 1:27.3 to stop the clock in 1:56.2, finishing 1 1/2 lengths better than Yarm closing for second. Afair Somewhere finished third another 11 lengths behind. Bob McClure drove the winner.
Mischevious Rose rallied to post the quickest mile for 2-year-old trotting fillies with a 2:03.3 mile. Driver James MacDonald kept Mischevious Rose at the pylons while Jula Victoria plowed for the front through a :31 quarter and a 1:02.1 half. Jula Victoria cleared to three-quarters in 1:32.4 but began to tire in the stretch as Mischevious Rose revved into contention. The Muscle Mass filly fired to the lead late to win by a length over Cersei De Vie, with Enjoy The Moment another length behind in third.
Beyond The Sea swept to the lead moving to the half to go the fastest mile for 2-year-old pacing fillies with a 1:58.1 score. Away second to a :29.3 first quarter, driver Scott Young sent the Downbytheseaside filly for the lead to a :59.4 half and took over control to the far turn. From there, the Robert Young trainee drew clear to three-quarters in 1:28.3 to win by 4 1/2 lengths over early pacesetter Whenthesungoesdown. Watch Her Fly finished another four lengths behind in third.
