'Shaggy', Sleeping Single Double In BSS
Odds On Shaggy and Sleeping Single provided the fireworks at MGM Northfield Park July 4, as they collected their second win in as many legs in the Buckeye Stallion Series (BSS) for 3-year-old colts and geldings.
A total of seven divisions of the BSS were contested on the holiday, each carrying a purse of $17,500.
Odds On Shaggy, the son of Racing Hill won for the third time this year for Brett Miller and trainer Virgil Morgan Jr. Odds On Shaggy sat second until the stretch and shot down the passing lane to pick up his second BSS win in 1:51.3.
Sleeping Single collected his second BSS win going gate to wire for Trevor Smith and trainer Chris Beaver. Sleeping Single, also a son of Racing Hill covered the mile in 1:53 to win for the fourth time this season in 11 starts.
Two other sons of Racing Hill offspring picked up wins as Walknafter Midnite was a winner for driver Jason Thompson and trainer Todd Luther in 1:51.4. Big Boss Hill rallied down the stretch to win for Chris Lems and Pamela Young in 1:54.1
The best time for the seven Buckeye Stallion Series divisions was turned in by King Klueber, a son of Allamerican Native for driver Kayne Kaufman and trainer Bruce Sturgeon. King Klueber held on at the wire to win in 1:50.3.
The other two winners were sired by Mr. Wiggles. Doowrah Boy, with Greg Grismore driving for Tyler Bates, was a winner in 1:52.4; while Letstrytowgleagain picked up the victory in 1:52 for Kurt Sugg and Clyde Francis in 1:52.
Buckeye Stallion Series action continues tonight at MGM Northfield Park. The second leg of the 3-Year-Old Filly Trot will have four divisions, with Sewin Sue, Jogging Sweets and Fanciful Invention looking for their second win in the series. The first leg of the 2-Year-Old Colt Trot will also be contested. Each race in the BSS carries a purse of $17,500.
