After All Paul Evades Pocono Foes

Trotters took a rare turn in the Saturday (July 3) spotlight over an off surface at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono, with After All Paul setting slow fractions then sprinting home to win the $15,700 feature.

Driver Anthony Napolitano let other early leavers go, then brushed the Swan For All gelding to the lead after a :28 quarter. After All Paul got slow middle fractions of :58.2 and 1:27.1, then, despite bearing out, still prevailed easily with a :28 hustle home to complete the 1:55.1 mile. Rock Of Cashel was second, a neck ahead of third-place King Alphonso but 1-1/4 lengths behind After All Paul, whom Lance Hudson trains for owner William Hartt.

A pair of 1:50.1 pacing miles also headlined the Saturday card — by Paternity Suit A for driver Marcus Miller, trainer Tom Fanning, and owners Anthony Gruppo and Tim Bojarski; and Benjis Best for driver Matt Kakaley, trainer Travis Alexander, and Rags To Riches Of PA LLC. The veteran trotter Rich And Miserable, a 1:52.4 winner trained by Todd Buter, owned by Buter Farm Inc., Lynette Buter, and William and Carol Fuhs, and one of Tyler Buter’s four winning drives on the day, also turned in a sharp victory.

Sunday’s (July 4) 5 p.m. card will feature a $13,000 distaff pace, along with an $11,700 event for two-year-old trotting colts and geldings. Program pages are available at the PHHA website.
