Streaking Fillies Score At Truro
Three-year-old pacing fillies were front and centre during Friday’s stakes-filled card at Truro Raceway.
The half-mile oval hosted four divisions of the Atlantic Sires Stakes made up of a trio of ‘A’ divisions and a single ‘B’ division.
Mystifying took home the hardware in her $7,080 assignment for driver Gilles Barrieau and trainer Darryl MacLean.
Barrieau rallied the daughter of Source Of Pride-Dreaming to the win by 3-1/4 lengths over Elm Grove Penney in 1:57.2. Taking home the show dough was Woodmere Stella.
Sent off as the 3-5 favourite, Mystifying extended her winning streak to three in a row for MacLean and partners Gordon MacLean and Stephen Downey The seven-time winner has banked $13,708 to date.
Tobins Brownie made it seven consecutive wins thanks to her triumph in the second ‘A’ division for trainer/driver David Dowling.
The daughter of Stonebridge Terror-Putnam Mackenzie came first-over late in the mile and used a :28.4 closing panel to win by 3-3/4 lengths over Aspoonfulofsugar in 1:57.3. Third prize went to Vicky Everyday.
Sent off as the 3-5 favourite, the sophomore is now 10-for-14 in her career for partners James Quinn, Carl Peterson, Amy Katherine and Brittany Watts. She’s stashed away close to $55,000 in lifetime earnings.
Southfield Skye powered to the lead past the quarter pole in the third division and kept on trucking en route to a handy score for driver Marc Campbell and trainer Glenn McKay.
After parking past a :29.3 opening quarter, Southfield Skye marched to the top and sliced out splits of :59.2 and 1:28.2. A closing quarter of :29 earned her the win by 3-3/4 lengths over race favourite Woodmere Vanish in 1:57.2. Woodmere Leah was third.
The homebred daughter of Stonebridge Terror-Southfield Sarah is owned by Southfield Farms Inc of Summerside, PE. It was her first win of the year and the fourth of her career. The win pushed her lifetime earnings over $20,000.
Saulsbrook Jewel earned a new lifetime mark with her 2:01.3 tally in the lone $3,000 ‘B’ division.
Gerard Kennedy mapped out the winning trip for the Donald Kennedy-trained daughter of Cougar Hall-Joltimatum. Magical Lily Bear was third-placed second with Woodmere Cha Cha finishing fourth-placed-third.
Terri Morrison and Irwin Claener share ownership on the three-time winner who now boasts a 2-1-0 record from three starts this season.
Veteran pacer Rusty Riley picked up his second win of the season on the AtSS undercard in the $2,000 Winners Over Pace. Corey MacPherson engineered the winning trip, a wire-to-wire performance in 1:57.3 for trainer Paul Langille and owners Chantel Gillis of Truro and Dana Getto of New Waterford, N.S. The 10-year-old son of Blissfull Hall - My Friend Flicka picked up his 30th lifetime win, besting Thunder Alley and Ashestodiamonds by a length.
