Golden Win For Intended Royalty
Randy and Edward Copley's Intended Royalty ($3.80) scored the 50th win of his long career on Sunday afternoon (June 27) — and he did so in authoritative fashion, delivering a 9-1/2-length drubbing to his foes in the top pace at Inverness Raceway.
Redmond Doucet launched the 10-year-old No Pan Intended gelding to a clear lead over Euchred (Donald Gillis) through a relatively soft :29.3 first quarter. From there, Intended Royalty picked up the pace to maintain — and expand — his margin of clearance, reeling off splits of :57.1 and 1:26.2 en route to a decisive 1:55.3 score. Runner-up Euchred was 8-1/2 lengths better than Daddy Let Me Drive (Rodney Gillis), who could only muster mild gains amid a tiring second flight to take third.
Randy Copley trains Intended Royalty, who won 14 of 23 races last year and has now won at least one race in each of his nine seasons of competition.
