Five Straight For Wheels On Fire
Winning twice at the top level at the Meadowlands during the Ontario shutdown, Wheels On Fire shipped back to Woodbine Mohawk Park and has continued to blaze over the surface as he won his third-straight in the $34,000 Preferred Pace on Saturday (June 26).
Driver Doug McNair landed Wheels On Fire in the pocket from post 6 while Century Farroh took control and led the field by the quarter in :27.1. He continued on the point past a :56 half and accelerated into the final turn as McNair readied his charge out of the pocket. By three-quarters in 1:23.1, Wheels On Fire seized the lead into the stretch and drew away to a 2 1/4-length victory in 1:49.2 with Century Farroh holding second. Points North, off a pylon trip, took third.
A six-year-old gelding by Somebeachsomewhere, Wheels On Fire won his eighth race from 11 starts this season and his 30th from 79 overall, earning $516,523. Richard Moreau trains the $5.70 winner.
