Karma Seelster Clicks In Preferred
So Much More was an overwhelming favourite to extend her winning streak to four-in-a-row in Friday’s $30,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Handicap, but Karma Seelster snuck up the rail in the lane to steal that one’s thunder.
It was Karma Seelster who shot to the top for driver Doug McNair and had the field chasing them to the first quarter in :26.3. Ivana Flybye N muscled up on the rim and went by that foe as they entered the backstretch, and she went on to carve out middle panels of :55.1 and 1:22.4.
So Much More angled out of the four-hole as the field headed toward the final turn, and she started the first-over grind to the leaders as the group entered the lane. Ivana Flybye N dug in late, but drifted slightly off the rail which allowed Karma Seelster to sneak through for the win. So Much More’s late bid fell short by just a neck. Ivana Flybye N was a bang-up third.
Gregg McNair trains the four-year-old daughter of Sportswriter-Kiddie Cocktail for Eileen Waples, Karen Hauver and Shadyhill Racing Stable. The Ontario Sires Stakes graduate won for the first time this season and for the eighth time in her career. The 1:50.2 clocking was a career best performance for the winner of $558,375.
