Christie Waffles On Slots At Tracks
Last week, when asked twice if slot machines might be in New Jersey racetracks' futures, governor Chris Christie gave what can only be described as a vague answer
.
“I’m not ruling it in, I’m not ruling it out,” he was quoted as saying in an article on pressofatlanticcity.com.
Christie went on to say, “I’m not ruling it up, I’m not ruling it down.”
According to the article, Atlantic City casino interests have indicated that during his candidacy to become the governor of New Jersey, Christie had stated that he would oppose the expansion of gaming 'in the northern part of the state.'
Barbara DeMarco, lobbyist for the New Jersey Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association, was also quoted in the article. She was discussing the disadvantage New Jersey racetracks have in compared to their rivals in neighbouring states.
“If you’re a supermarket, and you can’t sell milk while others can, how can you make it financially? You can’t,” she was quoted as saying. “When other states opened slots at racetracks, while we can't, we’re in that position.”
