Lady Arthur Sharp In Qualifier
Lady Arthur threw down a vicious 1:53.4 mile to lead Thursday morning's (June 17) six-race qualifying session at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
The four-time winner, who has banked $114,500 in her career while competing primarily on the Ohio stakes circuit, was forced to qualify after repeated breaks in the Buckeye State. But the three-year-old daughter of Arthur Blue Chip and April Three delivered a sharp mile in her return to Ontario, coasting through fractions of :28.2, :56.4 and 1:26 before powering away to a 13-length win over Rocket Girl and Virtual Success. Bob McClure drove Lady Arthur for trainer Dr. Ian Moore, who shares ownership with R G McGroup Ltd. and Serge Savard.
In other action, Warrawee Roo's comeback trail continued with a 1:57 qualifying win. The eight-year-old Majestic Son entire rode the pocket behind Arcanum before McClure angled him off the pegs for a :28.3 sprint home. The Luc Blais trainee, whose career accomplishments include a win in the 2018 Harry Harvey Invitational over a mile and a quarter and a third-place finish in the Breeders Crown the same year, did not race in 2019 or 2020, and is working back into race-ready shape after three unsuccessful starts this spring for Serge Godin's Determination.
