Armbro Dublin Upsets In Fraser Open
Armbro Dublin rallied off second over to pull off a 12-1 surprise in the featured $13,000 Open Pace Friday at Fraser Downs
.
Lilsharkshooter (Scott Knight) left from the middle of the eight-pack, but gave way to Storyeum (Gord Abbott) as they headed around the first turn. Storyeum proceeded to lead past the first quarter in :26.3 and half in :55.2 before the first over Red Star Tomahawk (James Burke) stuck his nose in front.
Storyeum battled back past three-quarters in 1:24, but Armbro Dublin, who sat fourth through the early panels, was just beginning to power up from second over. Trainer-driver Keith Clark angled the 12-1 longshot three-wide around the final turn and he swept past the field to score in 1:53.1.
Lilsharkshooter finished one and three-quarter lengths behind while the co-favoured entrymates, Red Star Tomahawk and Reserve Forces (David McKellar), finished third and fourth.
The win was Armbro Dublin’s first of the season in four starts for owner Robert Jones of Slave Lake, Atla. The seven-year-old Cambest gelding has won 40 times in his career earning $470,602.
