Vernon Hosts Sophomores In NYSS

Vernon Downs will welcome two divisions each of the New York Sire Stakes (NYSS) for both three-year-old trotting colts & geldings as well as three-year-old trotting fillies on Friday (June 4).

Dewey Arnold (Jason Bartlett) is the morning-line favourite in the $56,000 first division for sophomore trotting colts & geldings. The gelding by Deweycheatumnhowe is trained by David Dewhurst. He has won his last six races including the $32,900 John Mongeon Memorial Final at Saratoga.

Incommunicado is the 2-1 second choice. He is two-for-two in 2021 including a win in the$115,583 Dexter Cup. The gelding is trained and driven by Ake Svanstedt.

Unbeaten Latin Lover (Leon Bailey) is the 3-1 morning-line favourite in the $57,000 second division. The colt by E L Titan is trained by Walter Haynes Jr. Unraced as a two-year-old, he is two-for-two in 2021.

His toughest competition looks to be the Bruce Saunders trained Dees Red Delicous (Corey Callahan). The gelding by Credit Winner is winless in two starts as a three-year-old. He won the Kindergarten Classic Final at the Meadowlands as a freshman. He has amassed over $250,000 in his career.

Darlene Hanover (Andrew McCarthy) looks to be the one to beat in the $57,000 first division for sophomore trotting fillies. Brett Bittle trains the daughter of Chapter Seven who makes her 2021 debut. She was four-for-eight as a two-year-old including a victory in the $350,300 John Doherty Memorial Final at The Meadowlands.

Her chief rival looks to be Illuminata. Trained and driven by Ake Svanstedt, she has two wins including the $189,600 Matron at Dover Downs as a freshman.

In the $57,000 second division the 5-2 morning-line favourite is Iteration (Brian Sears). Marcus Melander trains this full sister of Gimpanzee by Chapter Seven. This will be her first race of 2021. As a freshman, she won five times including a victory in the $225,000 NYSS final at Yonkers.

The second morning-line choice in the second division is Big City Pearl. Trained and driven by Verlin Yoder, she is one-for-three this season and is four-for-12 in her career.

The 15-race card starts at 6:10 p.m. (EDT).
