Optimism For NJ Gaming?

A report out of New Jersey has stated that governor Chris Christie will today construct a commission to find solutions to the state's sports and entertainment industries, which have been in a state o decline over the past years

.

Northjersey.com has reported that the news of the commission comes from a high-ranking source within Christie's administration.

The article states that a seven-member panel will examine the viability of the sports authority, as well the state’s money-losing racetracks, the stalled Xanadu project and the Atlantic City casino industry’s struggles, as well as the relationship between the Izod Center and the Prudential Center.

The report states that Christie will set a June 30 deadline for the panel’s report.

“This commission will be much more specific and honed to a policy blueprint,” the source was quoted as saying.

On Friday, January 22, Christie released 19 reports prepared by his Transition New Jersey subcommittees, including the report on Gaming, Sports, and Entertainments that included the New Jersey Sports & Exhibition Authority and the Meadowlands.

The report did not paint a pretty picture for the future of the horse racing industry in the state.

I don't understand why everyone is trying to paint these commissions as a possibility for gaming at the Meadowlands. That is not on anyone's radar in the Governor's office. The way it looks like now is that there will be no VLTs, no subsidies in New Jersey next year. That is the reality. Hoping for anything else is like betting on a 99-1 shot.
