Go Go George Wins GLADA Trot

There's the adage of 'when you're hot, you're hot", and that is just exactly what Go Go George is after having won the $8,400 GLADA trot again at Northfield Park. With Larry Ferrari at the controls on Saturday (May 22), they stopped the clock at 1:56.1 for the veteran trotter's fourth win in his last six starts.

Understandably sent as the favourite from post 2 in the nine-horse field, Ferrari wasted little time sending George to the lead from the two-hole when the starter said “go” and they reached the first stanza in :28.3. When Floyd Rhodes moved Back Door Man off the pylons to challenge for the lead, the two trotters raced side-by-side past the half in :59, and they were noses apart when they trotted by the three quarters in 1:28.

While that battle was happening, Vernon Beachy enjoyed a covered two-hole trip with Big Bad Caviar. And when Back Door Man's stride shortened, Beachy and his trotter ranged up and moved alongside Go Go George. But Farrari's trotter was up to the challenge. When they headed for paydirt Big Bad Caviar struggled and a game Go Go George trotted on to a one-and-a-quarter length victory. Big Bad Caviar finished second, two-and-a-half lengths ahead of third-place finisher Back Door Man.

Go Go George, a seven-year-old gelded son of Neely Dunn, is owned by Kiesha Ferrari and trained by his driver. He returned a $4.40 win mutuel.
