The United States Harness Writers Association has announced the appointment of Alicia Schwartz to the Hall of Fame Committee

The committee reviews nominations sent in by the various USHWA chapters, selects what it considers to be the strongest candidates, and then meets with the advisory board -- a group of Hall of Famers -- in order to make sure that the best candidates for the Hall are put before the electorate in late summer.

“Mrs. Schwartz has been in this business for almost four decades and I know she will be dedicated, diligent and objective in all of her decisions,” said USHWA president Debbie Little, who appointed Schwartz.

Committee members serve a six-year term at, after which time, they can be reinstated for another six-year term or replaced.

As an owner, breeder and amateur driver, Schwartz has an extensive knowledge of the sport.

She started out as an owner of horses in New York, and as a result of champions like Curragh, she was able to travel and gain knowledge of many tracks throughout North America.

Her involvement with amateur racing has allowed her to become an international ambassador for our sport and has given her ties to many countries.

She has been a director for the CKG Billings Amateur Drivers Series and is currently secretary for the North American Amateur Drivers Association. She is also a member of the Harness Racing Museum as well as Goshen Historic Track.

“Prior to becoming a member of USHWA, Mrs. Schwartz always supported our organization and since joining has always been the first one to volunteer to help," added Little. "She will be a great asset to the committee."
