Prairie Westerngal Wins Tioga Open
Prairie Westerngal won in the featured $9,000 Fillies and Mares Open Pace at Tioga Downs on Saturday (May 15).
Prairie Westerngal went straight to the front. Landry Seelster came first up and took the lead just before hitting the first quarter in :27.1. Persistent Bettor was the next to take the lead. However that lead was short lived as Prairie Westerngal went to the front and took the field into the clubhouse turn. She was first to the half in :56.3 and was challenged up the backstretch by Faithful Desire. Prairie Westerngal kept tough and led to three-quarters in 1:24.
As they made the turn for home, it was all Prairie Westerngal winning with ease in a lifetime best of 1:52. Persistent Bettor finished second. Landry Seelster was third best.
Prairie Westerngal is a five-year-old mare by Western Ideal. She is owned by Laurie Poulin and trainer Mike Deters. It was her fifth win in 2021 and her 18th in her career. She paid $2.40 to win.
The win was part of a grand slam for driver Wally Hennessey. He got his other wins with Tech Titan ($9.20), Groovy Kid ($8.00), and Lo Hold A Moonbean ($17.80).
Tioga Downs returns to Live racing on Sunday (May 16) with a 12-race card starting at 1:00 p.m. (EDT).
