Priceless Edition Prevails At Rideau
Hammered down to odds of 4-5 after winning last week’s Preferred Handicap Pace at Rideau Carleton Raceway, Peenie put up a strong fight in Sunday’s $14,000 feature, but was edged out by Priceless Edition in a stretch duel
.
Post 5 starter Did It Again (Stephane Gendron) was first away with Peenie (Denis St Pierre) gunning for the top spot from the outside. The favourite cleared the lead after the :27.2 opener, but he was quickly looped by Did It Again en route to the half in :56.
Watching the front-end action from third, Priceless Edition, with Gord Brown in the bike, waited until the 1:25.2 three-quarters mark before making his move. As he pressed the leader heading into the stretch, Peenie shot up the rail.
The three sprinted to the wire together with Priceless Edition pushing his neck in front for the 1:54.4 score. Peenie was the runner-up with Did It Again right there in third.
The six-year-old Real Desire-Precious Delight gelding is owned and bred by Peter Heffering of Port Perry, Ont. and trained by Mark Steacy. Priceless Edition, who notched his first win of the season tonight, has yet to finish off the board in four starts. The winner of 28 races lifetime now boasts $407,883 in earnings.
