San Domino, 'Marloe' Take Philly Features
San Domino A and Marloe Hanover proved victorious in Sunday afternoon's (May 9) co-featured $16,200 pacing events at Harrah's Philadelphia.
In the week's top event for pacing males, San Domino A and driver George Napolitano Jr. angled out of the pocket to challenge pacesetter Pyro at the end of a :27.1 first quarter, but ultimately were forced back into the pocket with a lap to go. The eight-year-old Somebeachsomewhere gelding was boxed up the backstretch in pursuit of a :26.4 third sectional, but reached through the open stretch to prevail by a nose over Pyro in 1:50.4. Carlisimo rallied off cover for third, two lengths back.
Andrew Harris trains 29-time winner San Domino A for Joe P Racing LLC and Oldford Racing LLC. He paid $6.40 to win.
The featured distaff event went to Marloe Hanover, who—in line to Todd McCarthy—cleared for control just beyond a :27.2 first quarter and withstood sustained pressure from Eclipse Me N through middle splits of :55.3 and 1:23 before also holding off eventual runner-up Crazy Cute by a length to win in 1:50.4. Eclipse Me N leveled off in the stretch but maintained third.
Richard "Nifty" Norman trains 12-time winner Marloe Hanover, a four-year-old daughter of Captaintreacherous, for the Let It Ride Stables and J L Benson Stables. She paid $4.60 to win.
A string of beaten favourites in the afternoon's first four races sparked an Early Pick 4 which returned $4,246.00 for every 50 cents invested on the winning 4/2/1/5 combination. Harrah's Philadelphia offers players two Pick-4 wagers on each card, along with a Pick 5 and three Super Hi-5 wagers.
Racing returns to Harrah's Philadelphia on Wednesday afternoon (May 12); post time is 12:25 p.m. (EDT).
