Lady Godiva Scheduled For February 15

With Valentine’s Day falling on a Sunday, and with no Sunday racing in Monticello, the 'Mighty M' will stage its eight annual Lady Godiva Pace, a race for female drivers only, on Monday, February 15, instead.

Usually presented on Valentine’s Day, a day which has become synonymous with offering box of chocolates to someone special, the race winner will not only receive a huge trophy, but also a box of Godiva chocolates, hence the race name, Lady Godiva Pace.

Last year, Doreen Dailey, who came in from Freehold Raceway to be a participant, took home the trophy and the box of Godiva chocolates when she guided Bali Mystic N to a neck victory over Arts Investment (driven by Jennifer Lappe).

The final time of 2:00:1 was an event record having eclipsed the 2:00:3 mark set in 2007 when Devan Miller guided Bring The Pain to victory over seven other female drivers.

Though Director of Racing Eric Warner has a few female drivers competing at Monticello Raceway -- among them Betsy Phillips with 548 career victories -- he still will need eight to fill the Lady Godiva Pace. He is now in the process of seeking lady drivers who are interested in participating in this year’s edition of the Lady Godiva.

The upcoming Lady Godiva Pace, which comes on the heels of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Pace, will be the second leg of the raceway's 2010 Heritage Drivers Series.

For further information, or to participate, interested parties are urged to contact Warner by calling the track's race office at 845-794-4100 (Ext. 557), or they can contact Monticello's publicity office at extension 455.
