Lunar Sweeps Kirwan Memorial Series
Lunar was otherworldly again Friday at The Meadows, demolishing the field by 7-3/4 lengths in capturing the $23,000 championship of the Tom Kirwan Memorial Pace for sophomore colts and geldings, completing a series sweep and stretching his career unbeaten streak to five.
Hammered down to 1-9, Lunar grabbed the early lead for Ronnie Wrenn, Jr. but was shuffled slightly to third before making his move at the half. He opened up a six-length lead at the three-quarters and cruised home under wraps in 1:52.3. Manholmes and Louie completed the ticket.
Ron Burke trains the Sweet Lou-Crescent City gelding for Burke Racing Stable LLC, Phillip Collura, Knox Services and J&T Silva-Purnel&Libby.
Dave Palone piloted four winners, including a pair for trainer Mike Palone, on the 13-race card.
Live racing at The Meadows resumes Wednesday when the program features a $4,668.15 carryover in the final-race Super Hi-5. First post is 12:45 p.m.
