Cuz She Can Hangs On By A Head
Cuz She Can managed to beat out race favourite Native Bride in a sprint to the wire during the featured $32,000 Mares Invitational Pace Friday night at the Meadowlands Racetrack
.
Leaving from the two hole, Tim Tetrick settled the 7-2 second choice in third behind early speedsters Lightning Treasure (Ron Pierce) and Chancey Lady (John Campbell). Pierce and Lightning Treasure won the battle for the top spot, but Campbell made a quarter pole move and guided Chancey Lady past the first mark in :28.2.
Chancey Lady remained in control through stations of :57 and 1:25.2 before Cuz She Can switched into sprint mode and kicked home in :26.1 to score. She held off Native Bride, closing from fourth, by a head in 1:52.1. Lightning Treasure finished five and three-quarter lengths back in third.
Ron Burke trains Cuz She Can, a five-year-old Cambest-Second Symphony mare, for Bulletproof Enterprises of Boca Raton, Florida. The win was her first in two tries this year and 15th lifetime pushing her earnings to $424,209.
