Franklin County Upsets At The Meadows
Franklin County broke her maiden in spectacular fashion Thursday (April 8) at The Meadows, springing a 17-1 upset in the Margaret Provost Memorial Trot in a sharp 1:56.3. Treasure Gems K captured the other $12,500 second-leg division in the series for three-year-old trotting fillies.
Franklin County hit the ticket only once in her five previous outings, but she left alertly for trainer-driver Wilbur Yoder, settling into the pocket behind opening-leg winner Night Flyer K in the first division. The daughter of Southwind Frank and Hiya Lady rolled past Night Flyer K in the lane and held off Wholelotatrot to prevail by a neck for owner McMullen Stable. Night Flyer K saved show.
Treasure Gems K controlled the mile for Dave Palone in the second division, never enduring a threatened moment en route to a career fastest 1:55.2 victory. Although her margin over Kommin On Strong was only a half length, Treasure Gems K was wrapped up late. Cash N Chips, who was forced wide by a breaker while rallying, was a hard-luck third.
Norm Parker trains the daughter of Encore Encore and Treasure Bank for Norm Parker Stable and Tom Klosky Jr.
Dan Rawlings, Ronnie Wrenn Jr. and Palone each enjoyed a three-bagger on the 14-race card.
Live racing at The Meadows continues Friday (April 9); first post is 12:45 p.m.
