Big Sir Inherits London Win
Interference at the top of the stretch landed Big Sir in the Western Fair winner’s circle on Tuesday (March 30) in the featured $10,000 conditioned pace.
Away second to a :27.1 opening quarter, Big Sir drafted pacesetter Shadow Tail as he continued to lead unchallenged to a :57.3 half. Podium Seelster, sitting fourth, soon angled first over and marched to press Shadow Tail up the backstretch as the field neared three-quarters in 1:26.2. With the pair still battling to the top of the stretch and Big Sir being impeded from the pocket, Shadow Tail strolled to the finish a half length better than the resurgent Big Sir, who took over the top spot via Shadow Tail’s disqualification. Heza Handy Man finished third.
A four-year-old gelding by Big Jim, Big Sir won his 11th race from 30 starts, earning $65,895. Anthony Montini trains the $2.70 winner for owners Albina Montini, Kwong Sum Low, William Rogers and Rick Rier. Doug McNair sat in the sulky.
