Manhattan Night Takes Flight
After a near miss in a second-place finish in last week’s Fillies & Mares Preferred 3 at Flamboro Downs, Manhattan Night returned to the nation’s fastest half-mile oval and rallied to win Thursday’s $10,000 feature race.
With Travis Henry at the lines, Manhattan Night got away fourth in the eight-mare affair and held that position throughout the opening half. Heavily favoured The Bandit Queen N in the meantime whacked out fractions of :27.2 and :57.3.
Henry then angled off the rail and went first over with Manhattan Night, who worked her way to the front while racing parked past the three-quarter pole in 1:24.2. She punched home in a :29-second clip to win by a pair of lengths over Custard Lite in 1:53.2. Significance took home the show dough.
Sent off at odds of 5-1, the five-year-old daughter of Dali-Manhattan Killean improved her 2021 record to 2-1-1 from five attempts with the win. The 16-time winner is now just shy of $150,000 in lifetime earnings. Anita Ouellette trains the homebred for Luc Ouellette Incorporated of Campbellville, ON.
