Track Record For Power And Grace
A more than decade-old track record fell at The Raceway at Western Fair District on Wednesday (March 24) when Power And Grace hit the finish first in the $13,000 Preferred 2 Handicap Trot.
Driver Brett MacDonald rolled the six-year-old Holiday Road mare to the front from post 5 while Sicario settled into the pocket to a :28.1 opening quarter. Heading to the half in :58.3, Power And Grace faced pressure as Refi ranged first over towards the temposetter moving to three-quarters in 1:27.1. The first-over challenger started to retreat into the final turn while Power And Grace remained strong on the lead, cruising to a one-and-a-half length victory in a 1:57.1 mile. Sicario finished second while Willyorwonthe took third.
The 1:57.1 clocking lowers the previous track record at The Raceway for aged trotting mares of 1:57.2, set by Must Sold Dream in Nov. 2006. Flora Dream later equaled that time in Jan. 2011.
Owned by Hartel Maintenance Inc. and Lormer McClure, Power And Grace won her 26th race from 82 starts, earning $208,980. Ronald MacDonald trains the $6.40 winner.
